Horse with bad feet, a public service call
This horse was a horse that was in very bad need of hoof work. The horse could not stand on three legs. Because of the low “pick point” we had to adapt the LAL (Large Animal Lifter) to support the horse for the farrier.
A 4:1 hauling system was remotely set up. Using change of direction pullies to keep personnel away from the horse, the horse was supported on its feet as the farrier trimmed its hooves.
After trimming, the horse is led away.
Horse trailer over-the-side
The trailer detached from the truck and rolled downhill, over the side and flipped over on to its side.
The first horse was dragged out, the second stood up on the trailer sidewall.
As the horse moved, the sidewall of the trailer failed, and the legs fell through the sheet metal.
Using trailer manipulation techniques, the trailer is slowly placed on to its roof. A Rescue Strap is placed on the horse, a Slip sheet is used to help contain the legs, and the horse is pulled out.
The horse is placed on the Rescue Glide and moved to a safe location to recover.

Horse stuck under a fence
This horse was found stuck under a fence. The horse had been down for an unknown time and was unable to stand. The horse was freed from the fence then placed onto a Rescue Glide and moved from its stall.
The horse was moved to a barn for the assist to its feet.
Large Animal Rescue Instructor Capt. Isaac Blum operated a chainsaw-powered capstan winch to perform the move and lift the horse.
The horse was placed into a LAL. The barn’s frame work was supported using Air Shore struts. Firefighter Audrey Dawson and Capt. Chris Paulsen ready to assist the horse during the lift.
After some rest and IV fluids the horse was lifted. Large Animal Rescue Instructor Capt. Jason Smith stands by with a quick release while the owner and vet check the horse.

With the front legs cleared the horse is asked to self extricate and is assisted by the rescue strap.
